November 4, 2021

Free

In the morning session (9:00-11:30am), the presenter will identify vocabulary acquisition and usage standards and brief highlights of vocabulary research to set the stage.  She will then engage participants in an interactive session by defining word tiers, sharing learning targets and aligned rubrics, and present a process and activities for instruction along with assessments.  Additionally, participants will learn about the types of context clues.  Teachers will receive materials and can immediately apply the content presented in their classroom.

In the afternoon session (12:30-3:00pm), the presenter will explain the difference between holistic and analytic rubrics, the purposes for using each, and rubric components.  She will feature examples of analytic rubrics and invite participants to design or review their own along with a student assessment task.  Additionally, she will discuss the function of student checklists and share examples, and explain ways to use rubrics and checklists and aligned tools.
